BHC: The tragedy of the Black Bourgeoisie

“The tragedy of the black bourgeoisie in America is not that it simply “sells out,” since all bourgeois classes are prone to compromise their sovereignty in a crisis. It is rather that no class the world over sells out so cheaply as the American black bourgeoisie …”
-Harold Cruse from The Crisis of the Negro Intellectual: A Historical Analysis of the Failure of Black Leadership

Gorgeous quote. Insightful. Traitorous…in the eyes of some. Much appreciated from where I’m standing.

With all due respect, (I love how people always say that when they are about to say something disrespectful.) Mr. Cruse had never spent much time on a reservation. And, as we are fond of reminding people, there are more dead indians at U of M than live ones.

At least there is a “American black bourgeoisie”. Ever hear of a Native bourgeoisie? They have a constitutionally protected RIGHT to sovereignty. They sell it for what? a little casino money, a house and a boat. look at the tribal government on any reservation and you will find fat people with a little casino money, a nice house, a boat (even the Dine in the middle of the damm desert…) and a distinct unwillingness to push the boundries of thier “sovereignty”.

just when you think youve reached the bottom, somebody tosses you a shovel

these cats can give alan keyes lessons on selling out cheap.

    ;P
