2 wars he promised to end but never did. Starting a THIRD war we can't afford (African country no less). Extension of Bush's unconstitutional Patriot Act. The unlawful imprisonment of Bradley Manning. The bombing of innocent brown people (and maybe a "terrorist" here and there) in Pakistan by predator drones. TSA man-handling of American civilians.

What is there that DOESN'T make him an extension of George Bush??? This guy has broken most of the campaign promises that people voted him in for and yet THIS TIME he's being honest.

I don't trust a word this man says and yes I'm black...

Steve- You're absolutely right, because silence is the order of the day around those emails and even this healthcare debate. The other thing folks must also seriously consider are the costs of "standing up and speaking out". They always come at toll.

Ashwini- Very good point on people of color and xenophobia, which is particularly complicated by the by in large acceptance of Obama among African-American folks, which has a layer of "he's different" under (or over) it. The question of deserving is one that's central to resources doled out, but I'm not sure if it fully connects to the birthers issues. I'm open to it connecting but me just not being able to see the connections right now.

I'm wondering also, xenophobia within communities of color sometimes seems to come from a notion that some people's ancestors have been here for longer and therefore "deserve" to be seen as more American than others. As Obama's Black heritage is not traced back within the United States for generations, I have heard many people say things like he doesn't truly "represent" the Black American experience. I wonder if maybe POC birthers, esp in the African-American community, are responding in part to this notion as well? What do you think?
