I'd love to think that Duval was joking, but if you look at his stream of tweets (which are linked) you see that he certainly is joking about rape and suggesting it is the fault of women putting themselves in bad positions. He then proceeded to try to defend himself passively by saying he's a comedian and pushing the envelope is what he's about. He is a comedian but certainly step beyond the line and didn't have the guts to admit his wrong move(s).

I want to begin by commending your for this piece and for calling attention to a very important issue. I think it's important that the community create an environment where sexual assault is completely unacceptable. Calling out language that facilitates rape is crucial in ending it.

I think that there is sometimes a fine line between what's offensive and what's satire. When I read Duval's tweet, I thought that the joke was on people who actually endorse such ridiculous beliefs- not on sexual assault. Regardless, I think that comedians should air on the side of caution. The benefit of a cheap laugh doesn't outweigh the cost of an unhealthy environment.
