I was told by a wise woman when I was very young and naive that if the NYC education system was reconstructed to properly educate our children, who would be left to push the garment trucks downtown? I'm not sure what the modern equivalent is – maybe who would be left to fill our prisons? Ensuring miseducation has a very real purpose social and economic purpose. Now that's pessimism.
