I'm glad that someone is taking note of the real issue. On the black radio stations here, they did cover Jaheem's death, and had lots of callers on the subject of bullying, but overall failed to even acknowledge the reasons behind his suicide. There is a distinct lack of discussion in the African American community around the stigma of homosexuality. Regardless of a child's sexual orientation, we need to acknowledge that "gay" is used as a weapon. <br>I take the author's argument further than simply educating the children because they are simply reflecting the comments they hear at home daily. Black adults regularly call people they dislike or don't respect "gay" or "faggot," making it apparent that there is nothing to love or take pride in about homosexuality. Until Black adults are willing to acknowledge their hand in this cycle of hatred, our children will continue to combat each other with these words that kill.
